Default Toshiba's Gigabeat V: Zune 2.0?

http://crunchgear.com/2007/05/28/toshiba-gigabeat-v-next-gen-gigabeat-next-gen-zune/

"Toshiba’s original Gigabeat is among the most successful non-iPod portable media players (PMP) out there, boosted by the fact that Microsoft used it as the basis for the Zune. Whether or not this new Gigabeat, the Gigabeat V, will be the basis of Zune 2(or Zune Too, or whatever hip, focus group-tested name Microsoft gives it) is yet unknown, but Toshiba’s player does its best to stand out from the crowd. The big draw here is its 4-inch 480 x 272-pixel resolution screen. And on that screen you’ll be greeted with a Windows Media Center-like interface, which is good or bad depending on your point of view."

Well, since the Zune v2 is supposedly going to be an in-house design, this is probably not the Zune v2.  That being said, I sure hope the Zune v2 is a lot like this Gigabeat V!

Let's hope not. That thing looks clunky.

Why change something that works. The iPod design hasn't change in it's 5 Gen. of design. Run with what works. You know once you go change, there's a possibly that you'll lose people. Alot of people are opposed to change. If anything streamline the original design as much as possible and beef up the firmware and software, give us more reason to stick our tongues out at the iPod owners.

Hence the fact I've never bought one.

Don't you know change is the only constant in the universe? That which doesn't change becomes stagnant.

I would love true portable media center functionality in Zune 2.0! I'm an idiot- I paid $500 for a 1st gen PMC. Why? I thought that by supporting the device I'd help keep it alive for 2nd gen improvements and continuation of the product. We know how that came out -- MS has said Windows Mobile is the priority going forward. But if the work that was born out of PMCv1 would surface in Zune 2.0 I'd be all over it!

Meanwhile, I've brough my PMC out of the box and have started using it again. It has a lot that the Zune left out but oh how I miss the feel of the Zune in my hand/pocket.
