Default Rumor Alert: New Zune in August?

"This is horribly irresponsible rumor-mongering, but we over heard this tidbit about the Zune over at GDC. Apparently, if the person was correct and our ears didn't fail us, the next-gen Zune will be available in August."

 

Obviously, this is nothing more than one giant rumor, but, word on the street (or at least over at Gizmodo) has it, a new Zune will be available in August.  If this rumor pans out, I wonder if this new Zune will indeed be a "second" generation of a hard drive-based player or rather a new flash-based model.

If it's a second generation HDD player, where does that leave early adopters?

That's a very valid concern. The Zune team, while quite on the "next generation" issue, still claim there are a number of improvements and enhancements coming down the pipe for our Zunes.
