Oh, that's right, I can play Quake III! :) PocketGamer has all the buzz on a free port of Quake III optimised for the Axim X50v/X51v's Intel 2700G GPU. As long as you have a copy of Quake III installed on your PC, and a spare 128MB (or higher) memory card floating around, then you're all set for hours of non-stop mobile fraggin'.

I'm guessing this is another case of W?BIC?

Seriously, how are you going to be able to move around, aim, shoot, etc. with the x50v's tiny d-pad and buttons?

I guess you use the sylus too, maybe tapping the point you want to shoot and use the D-pad to move?

nevermind - 15-20 fps seems really good for a PDA.

I am sure that it can work - I have been a long time player of the free port of the original Quake on a range of PPCs and found the combination of dpad, stylus and buttons to be no problem.

I just HAVE to ask - why in the world (other than showing off to non-PPC owners) would you even want to play Quake on a PPC? The experience would be SO unsatisfying compared to the same play on a PC....

Do you have a x50v? Did you ever tried stuntcar extreme, cube, Solterra, 3D chopper, etc. (all specially programmed for the graphic accelerator and VGA screen)? 8) If not, ask your question later after you try them.

Yes, I own an x50v (that's why I'm here  ), and I've tried a few of those games. I just don't find gaming on the PPC very interesting (compared to a decent sized screen).

I'm starting to wish I hadn't purchased it...it just locks up my Axim solid after it finishes loading.

I'll keep messing with it, but I think I'm out the nearly 30 bucks...meh

exactly what I was about to say.

Ever tried to play Quake on a laptop even when you are on a crowded bus? Of course not, but on the PPC...

I think this would be a real blast. Even the port of the Original Quake that I like to play at such moments can get pretty immersive if you have the right frame of mind - and the volume turned way up :D

I loaded up the gfDoom port onto my K-JAM yesterday and it runs great. I still prefer Star Wars: Battlefront II on my PSP, but my K-JAM is always with me, whereas my PSP (and laptop) isn't :D
