This version is the Japanese version, and an English version of NetFront 3.2 has still yet to surface. If you're interested in reading about the new features included in Version 3.2, click <a href="http://www.access-us-inc.com/Products/client-side/Prod_NetFront_nf.html">here</a>. I'll keep you notified if an English version is released.

I hope it comes soon. So I'm guessing the big new general enhancement is the Rapid-Render (as I already have Smart-Fit Rendering on my NF 3.1)?

I was also hoping for some improvements such as being able to specify the browser cache location separately...

Netfront is by far the best browser on the PPC platform. I hope they come out with the international version soon. There has been such a gap between 3.1 and 3.2 I guess they will be charging full price for the upgrade though.

BTW:bitequator

Apparently Netfront does not use the cache for anything accept off-line browsing, and it slows down the rendering otherwise. If you are not planning to use off-line browsing you might as well deactivate it, especially if you installed it on a slower medium such as rom or removable card.

^ Oh I didn't realize that. So you're saying the Cache size limit configurable under Tools -> Browser Setting is simply referring to the cache storage used for the Auto-Cruise feature? I'd thought the Auto-Cruise storage is a completely separate option (configured under Tools -> Auto-Cruise Setting) -- where I do have it set to use the SD card as storage location.

I'd assumed the abovementioned Cache size limit under Tools -> Browser Setting refers to caching used for online browsing. This is the setting I was originally talking about, because it does not seem to let you specify a cache location separate from the location where NetFront itself is installed...

Menneisyys, who loves actually testing these things, found that netfront doesnt actually check the cache for images when it downloading a page, it just downloads it again.

For this reason I have disabled the cache in netfront (which I have installed in the loox store) as I dont know of any method of moving it to main memory.

That was wise because, as I've pointed out at, for example, http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/for...pic.php?t=36376 , storing the NetFront/PIE cache greatly reduces page loading speeds. Furthermore, NetFront only caches stuff for subsequent offline browsing; it doesn't use conditional HTTP requests at all!!

What a lame bug, on my Java / TCP/IP courses (I'm also a lecturer on professional Java and TCP/IP programming) I wouldn't tolerate a semi-advanced HTTP client that contains so big a bug - and that's not even a commercial browser!

(Nevertheless, in most other respects, NetFront is still better than PIE, even version 3.1).

As much fun as it is cutting text from here and pasting it into google translation services (http://translate.google.com/translate_t), how about we use a common language which most people understand.

I nominate French of course ;)

Yes, Chucky. I know.

Ooo-kay... It was fun the first time but let's please keep to PPCT's designated universal language (i.e. English) from now on. Thanks. :way to go:

Actually, you'll be surprised. Online translation services for English &lt;-> Asian languages is quite appaling. No surprises though.

I nominate French of course.

Man are you guys using something like the Mobem CE-Star suite to enter these Chinese characters in your PPC (assuming above was typed from the PPCThoughts pocket site)? I haven't even been able to figure out how to enter my registration code for that app as the user interface is completely in Chinese (which I'm clueless with), and I'm too embarrassed to ask friends/family...

Tout à fait d'accord, ça me va parfaitement bien 8).

Pour moi, French ou anglais, c'est du pareil au même .

¡No hablo español!

French is OK with me. It's a little slow to read, but no worse than some English subjects I've successfully avoided to date.

It's all those languages with non-English-looking characters that blow my mind ;)

So no one would be interested in a Netfront 3.2 release in Sanskrit?

Don't worry. I know. ;)

Out of the two, I can only write Chinese.

The English translation of some menus has been posted to http://www.firstloox.org//forums/showpost.php?p=26568&amp;postcount=46 , inside the thread http://www.firstloox.org//forums/showthread.php?t=3365&amp;page=4 . That way, you'll be able to use the Japanese version to a certain degree until the English version arrives.

As I've posted to several PPC boards, I've found a nasty bug in NetFront 3.1 (from now on: NF) with flaky caching/reloading, which makes using NF 3.1 far more bandwith-consuming than an in this respect bugless PPC browser (for example, Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) or NetFront 3.2).

If you navigate to a previously visited page which still exists in NF's cache, the changes to the page will NOT be visible at all - the server always answers with a 304 Not Modified message. I've tested this several times with modified HTML pages. The changes have never been displayed without explicit reloading. If you force a reload of the page (click the Reload icon), on the other hand, all files will be downloaded again, regardless of their being modified or original, resulting in excess (and, again, unnecessary) bandwidth hit. In this respect, both PIE and NF 3.2 is much better.

Fortunately, in the latest (still Japanese only) version of NF, 3.2, this bug has been corrected.

(Just to make it clear: I'm pretty well versed in TCP/IP protocols. I'm the (co-)author or several Java-based TCP/IP libraries in the IBM AlphaBeans project. So, you may want to believe me :) )

Thanks for the credits - as can be seen, version 3.2 doesn't have this bug any more. Cool :) Now, I wish the English version came soon...

Now, I wish the English version came soon...

I just got this email response from Netfront support.

There is a little delay, but we expect announcement of the new version very soon.

Kind regards,

Probably need to revise 3.2 again to fit the new 2005 OS....or is that going to be 3.3 ?

I don't understand why it takes so long to translate stuff into English... even I would be more than glad to help in translating stuff... I just want NF 3.2, it's so much better than 3.1 (except for native VGA support, that is. Also, I hope it already has in-line text searching capabilities, unlike 3.1 and all the other PPC online Web browsers (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=343111)).

Did anyone else get an email from ACCESS yesterday announcing the NetFront 3.2 (English) upgrade discount offer?

There's no mention yet on their webpage, and no listing of v3.2 on Handango (although PocketGear already lists it).

I'd like to go ahead purchase the 50% discount upgrade from v3.1, unless I can find out if ACCESS provides free upgrade to those who purchased v3.1 semi-recently (3-4 months back)? :)
