View Full Version : cannot receive emails on my smt 5600
Since you have a smt 5600 (ATT), your help will be appreciated. I cannot receive emails on my smt 5600. They come through as text messages. Would you please provide the correct settings - I also have the ATT version.
Here are the settings given to me by the Cingular tech dep't:
server: pop3
account name: pop3
network: the internet
incoming server: pop.mymmode.com
outgoing server: smtp.mymmode.com
no check at ssl or outgoing server requires authentication
Thanks

Hey dbob, I moved your post over here since it isn't really related to the other thread. ;)
I do have a SMT5600, but A) I'm not actively using it, and B) I'm not on Cingular/AT&T. So I can try and help, but I can't really relate.
Who is your ISP? Why has Cingular provided you with email settings for your ISP? It sounds like you have configured the Text Messages folder to be your email folder. Instead you need to add a new folder and set that up with your email settings.
Mike:
Sorry, I didn't understand your questions. I use ATT/Cingular for phone and data. The techie had me remove mmode and substitute pop3 as the 4th option under messaging. then we input the settings I provided.
Perhaps, a current user will provide me the correct settings.

That sounds like an ATT set of settings? What are people sending e-mail to? If it is to your phone # it is SMS. Does Cingular/ATT actually set up a POP3 mailbox for you? I'm not aware of them doing that.
I have Cingular on my SMT5600, and Earthlink as my normal ISP. I set up an Earthink service in Inbox on my Smartphone. I use pretty much the same info I did on Outlook on the desktop. I have my phone set to check that mailbox every 15min (so it's not push, big deal, if they need me that bad they can call me, that's why I have the phone)
So if you send an email to [myname]@earthlink.net, it will end up on my phone when it checks mail.
The email address directly to my phone is (user name)@mmode.com
I don't need the ISP connection.
Any email sent to that address comes through as a text message, as does (wirless number)@mmode.com. I want to be able to receive emails which I previously did to (username)@mmode.com.
Further input is welcome and will definitely be appreciated.

Is it possible that SMS is alerting you you have mail on the server, and that you need to go retrieve it? The Inbox service I set up does require me to check for mail, either manually or automatically at a preset interval.
BTW, what do you mean "I want to be able to receive emails which I previously did to (username)@mmode.com." Did you have this working before? Same phone? Same provider?

I think it's working in the correct manner. Again, I'm not using AT&T or cingular so I could be way off. However, an email to mmode.com should arrice as a text message. At least that's what I would expect. AT&T/Cingular aren't providing you with an email account. The mmode address is just an alias for your phone. :)
I appreciate your taking the time to respond.
When I first got this phone it did receive emails to
(my user name)@mmode.com
Cingular made some changes recently to their system and, even with the help of their tech support dep't, couldn't give me the correct settings. I haven't finished with them yet.
It seems to me that at least one of your readers can/does receive emails as I've indicated above and has to definitely know the proper settings.
