Default eWallet 6.1 Released

http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/ew/ew_61.php

"eWallet 6.1, released in July 2008, is the latest version of eWallet for Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Windows PCs, UMPCs and U3 Smart Drives."

This actually came out about a week or so ago and I have been so busy at work I neglected to post on it. I've been using it for about 2 months in various beta stages and as always, Ilium's betas are as stable or more stable than some released products. Nothing earth-shattering in this release, but a lot of niceties added that keep eWallet at the top of my list of apps to install on my desktop and Pocket PC. This is a free upgrade for 6.0 users. If you have 5.x or an earlier release, see the information on their web site for upgrade eligibility.

Favorites view

Some of the new features include:

  • Personalize your card fields to work best for you: assign a type to any field in a card. Set multiple hidden fields, phone numbers, live email or web links, choose which fields to use with AutoPass - any type of data you want!
  • Get quick access to your most-used cards: create card shortcuts and build a Favorites folder for the info you want to open fast.
  • Search smarter: the Find feature now gives you a list of all possible cards that match what you're looking for. This is my favorite new feature. It really helps when your eWallet file has well over 100 cards in it.
  • Work faster on a non-touch screen device: Windows Mobile Standard (Smartphone) users can now enjoy easier card editing on their devices.

I think the field customization is by far my favorite feature. I put it to use almost immediately.

eWallet has been among my favorite PPC apps since first installing Ver 4.

Ver 6 added some nice customization options, along with a 'brighter' / more polished screen presence - and the new "Getting Started" guide is well done - but Ver 6.1 adds a feature that will make an Appreciable Improvement in using the app: the FIND function now returns a LIST of the cards within which the Search Text has been found, instead of merely taking you to the first card containing said text.

In theory, customization has been further improved, but probably won't look at that for a while as no longer add new cards on a FREQUENT basis - but the Search function is something that gets used nearly every time the app is opened and returning a List seems a wonderful idea....

Thumbs up Easy conversion

I used EWallet on the Handspring Visor. When I went to WinMobile with a Dell Axim x5, the Palm version converted over without any hassle.
I've never been enticed to use any other wallet program.

Have noticed that eWallet 6.1 loads slower than previous versions.

Perhaps necessary to load / create an Index for the new List feature under FIND?

Once loaded, app seems quite responsive, but getting to the PASSWORD screen takes considerably longer on my Axim, (v6.1) then on my wife's (running eWallet v6.0).

A small price to pay for the List feature - which appears almost 'instantly' upon tapping the "Find" box - but may want to re-think my habit of SHUTTING EVERYTHING DOWN that is not Actively In Use.

Also: DID look at creating a new record, and the Field Customization option are indeed a welcome addition!
