Default iPAQ H2210/2215 not recognising 22 mAh battery

I just purchased a 2200mAh battery (with custom new back) made by CS from an eBay retailer. It is labled compatible with Part No 310798-B21 (same as standard battery of my IPAQ H2210) I have done a ROM upgrade to 1.1 but my iPAQ still fails to see the new battery which I fully charged before fitting. Under "Settings", the power level pages says "main battery Unknown" although the standby battery does show its power level. On switching on, after a few seconds I get the message "main battery low" and it switches off. The packaging also says suitable for H2210, H2212, H2212E, H2215 and the back fits perfectly.
The iPAQ still works fine with the original battery. Am still awaiting reply from retailer but would greatly appreciate it if anyone could advise if its the battery at fault or something else I need to do. There seem to be lots of outlets selling the same branded battery with little difference in price so am hoping that someone out there has already solved this problem as I cannot find any similar postings. The new battery does appear to be fully charged (solid light on cradle) but I have no way of confirming the voltage as 3.7 unless someone has a pin diagram out there. Thanks in advance
