Default Trouble with permissions on Windows XP

I bought a laptop from a friend, it has XP Pro sp2 on it. It seemed like a pretty clean install, so I salvaged it. I found that if i changed the username to "Joel Crane", My Documents was still called "Tim's Documents", so I copied the account, deleted "Tim" and started using "Joel Crane". I shared my folders, created a password, and enabled Remote Desktop.

Now, for months, I haven't been able to log into Remote Desktop or access any of my shares from the other computers on my network. I can access other shares from this computer though.

I would like to password my shares too, so that it would ask for a username and password.

Also, recently my printer on my desktop stopped showing up on the network. Yes, it is shared. Why is sharing always so cranky?!
