Default i-Mate Updates Website; Shows Off New Phones

http://www.imate.com/default.aspx?skinid=1

Not only has i-Mate updated their corporate website, they also now have information regarding their latest models. This includes the VGA-screened powerhouse Ultimate 6150 and 8150, as well as the JAMA, JAMA 101, and JAMA 102. The two lines feature similiar capabilities within them, but give the user the option of picking the form factor they like most or are most accustomed to. Anyone out there ready to pick up a new i-Mate?

It's a little disapointing that the deminsions of the 8150 aren't as small as when they first announced the unit but it still looks very promising, will have to see once it gets reviewed.

Aside from the lack of built in GPS, which isn't a big deal, since I only use my GPS in the car and can use my bluetooth gps reciever which works better than the GPS chip in my Trinity anyways, this is a perfect device. Has a fast CPU, 128 Megs of Program Memory, Scroll Wheel, Physical Number Pad (yeah), FM Tuner and most importantly a VGA display driven by an nVidia Graphics chip. Can also do Video Out. This is much better than anything HTC has released, just hope it lives up to it's specs in overall performance.

I wish there was a device exactly like this that was a little smaller with maybe a slide out number pad, or even better slide out SureType keypad and much thinner but unless something better comes along I'm definately considering the 8150 as my next device.

Would it be possible to use the 6150 in the USA? Which carrier networks might it work with?

The specs sound great. But I think I have heard people raise questions about product quality and customer support from i-Mate.

Faster, but (imho) a hostile site... looked up pda2k and was met with "You are not a registered user"

...assume they still have the $25 "owner transfer" fee.

Interesting how much worse their site is if you haven't upgraded to Flash 9. With only Flash 8 my Browser showed...

... and the site was frankly pretty rubbish! I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of the Flash 9 version but at least it doesn't take an age to refresh when you click on something! Also interesting that I didn't get any "upgrade to Flash 9" message.

Default Whoa, Really? 2.8 inches of goodness (yeah right!)

Say it ain't so, say it ain't so! Where is my 7150? I have $1,500 waiting here anticipating the release of the 7150! They have the freaking nerve to say "Things look better on the big screen"... What?! What big screen? Oh the 2.8" display that um 75% of all device coming out today posses? Oh that big screen? Please; the stylus on my JasJar is bigger than that. What the F? They can lick my balls. Where's the 7150? Yeah try pulling out that "big" 2.8" display next to an iPhone which has an even bigger screen, and still manages to be smaller and cost the same (if not cheaper). Please don't get me wrong; I'm no fan of Apple, or the yPhone, but if Windows Mobile devices continue to get released with cookie-cutter specifications then we are doomed!

Where is my 7150?

Yes! It should work fine with Cingular/AT&T or T-Mobile. Cingular/AT&T will give you the hsdpa (I think the very best 3G you can get) in some area's. I don't think T-Mobile supports that.

Default Paranoid

Maybe I'm just paranoid but with the changing size spec did anyone notice that they now make no mention of the fact that the 8150 has a VGA screen? This is touted for the 6150 but not the 8150... mmmmmm?

Has anyone seen a black (vs silver demo) 8150 with a verified VGA screen? It better be VGA or I'm getting an UBiQUiO 503G instead!

I won't be getting one. I'm hoping i-mate or somebody will pick up the HTC Omni. I wonder what they'd call it though... JasJar II? i-mate Omniversal? xda-Executive II?? This is a phone with all the bells and whistles.
