Default Opera 8.65 Released, Improved Desktop Rendering and More

http://www.opera.com/products/mobil...ucts/winmobile/

Opera is certainly one of the best web browsers for Windows Mobile, and even better, the company keeps on updating it. v8.65 was released last week, and features a host of small improvements, including a new skin, better desktop rendering support, "grab and scroll", and more.

You can download it from the above link; a full changelog is available here. Have any of you tried the new update?

Yes, I tried it on my 2795 and it won't start....beta worked fine. Opera is working on it but no update in sight. It does work on some products not on others. Opera is non-responsive to many complaints on their forum.

My HTC Advantage X7501 came with Opera 8.65 preinstalled, and it's definitely the best mobile browser I've ever used. I tested it against IE Mobile, Minimo, Picsel, and NetFront recently, and Opera was the clear winner. You can view the results here if you're interested.

The only thing I can't get working is Flash...

ops: Sorry for the triple post. I was using my 2795 to write/send this post and didn't think I hit send more than once, but obviously I did.

Wow. Paying for a browser? Can't quite get used to that.

Might be an indicator that this is really good, but I'm afraid it's simply relative - that IE is so bad.

This is good news, but do you know how I can upgrade my version 8.60?

Mostly because all the other desktop browsers are free. Opera used to charge for their desktop version as well. No one used it. Firefox was better and free. So they made there desktop version free just to have a chance and even the smallest market share.

The mobile browser world is another story. There are no free browsers. There aren't really even that many browsers period. There are a bunch of addons for PIE and only a few standalone browsers. All of which you have to pay for. So while they cannot charge for their desktop browser because of the market, they can charge for their mobile browser because of the market.

It is a very nice browser and works better than PIE in most respects.. But not enough to justify the money to buy it. The browsing experience is horribly slow and unstable compared to PIE. However pages that will not work in PIE work in Opera. So there are trade offs.

I'm guessing that a .05 release can be installed on top of the previous version, although I haven't tried it, so I can't confirm whether it works or not.
