Default i760 release info

I've been following a rather lively (and entertaining!) discussion on PDAPhoneHome all day (September 14).
First, someone who'd bragged earlier in the week that he'd actually ordered one (almost no one believed him) stated that he received it, and posted pictures of it.
Then there were numerous posts from people who either successfully ordered an i760 over the phone, or who tried and failed. Apparently some customer service reps could order it, others couldn't.
Finally, some solid information from someone with a contact inside Verizon. Apparently the official release date is not until September 24 or 25. Every order placed was, basically, a screw-up on someone's part, like those stores which inadvertantly sold Harry Potter books a day or two early. Every order placed today (reportedly over 600!) was summarily cancelled.
Finally, some info which gives credibility to the September 24/25 release date. Verizon has a contractual agreement with Motorola not to release any competing phones for 30 days after release of Motorola's Q9m, which came out at the end of August. Thus, release will not be earlier than 9/24. The fact that i760's were ordered and shipped when upper management wasn't looking strongly suggests they are ready to go now.

[Edit:] I should have said, in the above paragraph, "The speculation on the message boards is that Verizon has a contractual agreement with Motorola..." I don't KNOW what kind of arrangements Verizon has with its suppliers, and I should not have stated the above as if it were an established fact.
Re-reading that post this morning, I suspect that my only excuse for writing that sentence as I did was that I had had too little sleep the night before and too little coffee that morning. I generally try to be more careful about what I say and write.
