Default Windows Live push hotmail problems on HTC Advantage over WiFi

I have an HTC Advantage x7501, Windows Mobile 6.
I configured Windows Live to check my hotmail account. Under options you should be able to change "Sync schedule" to "As items arrive", meaning you get push hotmail. But whenever I change this setting from the default "Manual", it never sticks. Forget push, even if I try to get it to sync every 15 minutes, it still reverts to Manual.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm connecting via WiFi as I do not currently have a data plan, so no data connection. But the manual sync works from the Messaging application (Send\Receive) so don't know why it can't at least check every 15 minutes even if for some reason instant push notification doesn't work over WiFi.

Does anyone know if this is an HTC Advantage problem or if it's related to using WiFi instead of a data connection?

TIA
