Default Sybase and HTC Announce "Global Alliance"

http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1053433

"Sybase, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, and HTC Corp., the world's leading provider of Microsoft Windows Mobile-based smart devices, today announced the formation of a global alliance. The companies are teaming on strategic business, engineering and marketing initiatives designed to deliver optimized Sybase iAnywhere mobility software on HTC devices. The alliance will focus initially on the management and security components of the Sybase Information Anywhere suite, which provides a platform for enterprise mobility. Sybase will work closely with HTC on product optimization and integration, resulting in stronger Windows Mobile device management and security options for enterprises."

Sounds good in theory, but a question for the enterprise readers out there: does anyone use Sybase's enterprise management tools? Sybase's main market is SQL (via their SQL Anywhere suite), as far as I know. I'm guessing the main customer base of interest would be those who are looking to tie their Sybase SQL products into the mobility sphere with appropriate mobile management.

We resell Sybase's Mobile Management Solutions and we have plenty of enterprise customer so they are used :-)

Just returning from Sybase Techwave i Las Vegas it seems that the focus on turned more and more towards the mobile space:
  • PocketBuilder (PowerBuilder for mobile devices)
    SQL Anywhere
    Information Anywhere (Afaria + OneBridge)

Making the Information Anywhere Suite (Afaria/OneBridge) work better with devices is key for any management suite supplier and the partnership with one of (if not) the biggest device suppliers should make a difference.

Deploying enterprise devices without device management seems to be a very bad idea and again yes, Sybase management tools are being used.

Thanks for the feedback! It sounds like I've really fallen behind on Sybase and their current operations and product lineup.
