Motorola's 3G MING to Run On Windows Mobile?
"We've got confirmation now on some details regarding Motorola's MING handset that is headed here to the states. In a weird twist of fate, the MING won't run the popular JUIX operating system, but will in fact run Windows Mobile. The reason for the change, as we've been told, is that JUIX can not support 3G right now. Motorola has barely even started development on it actually."

I have to say, the unit looks appealing, but this is Motorola, and I'd want to see both details and an actual release date before I get excited about it; while the Boy Genius Report supposedly has "confirmed" it, they themselves state development has just begun. (Anyone remember the MPx? )

I don't know... Windows Mobile Pocket PC edition was originally made for 3.5" QVGA screens. Screens have shrunk since then, with the QVGA resolution remaining the same.
I think that some elements of the UI will be too small with the 2.4" screen of the Ming. I've used the JUIX version of the Ming and its nothing fancy - its by Motorola after all and they're not legendary for software/UI design.
A tandem rant is that Smartphone screens have increased in size and rotated, so UI elements that were comfortable on a 2.2" QVGA portrait screen don't fit well on a 2.5" QVGA landscape screen.

i thought the form factor of the MPX was great. i'm really surprised Moto hasn't used it for something else by now.

My boss had this device and I have to say, is one sexy device, I always told him, if Motorola would come up with this device in a WM OS, I would be all over it. The phone is small, it is very handy, I specially love the cover, which has the receiver speaker built-in the clear plastic cover.

I feel with the MPX, they just barely missed the mark. Put 64MB of memory in there instead of the ridiculous 32 that it had and give it quad band instead of tri-band radio, and the fate of the MPX might have been a lot different.

I think having a clear cover for the screen is a good idea but... from the looks of this picture, the cover renders the navigation buttons inaccessible when closed. What use is that. I guess that you can view information on the screen, but if you want to do anything with the device at all, you have to open the cover. It might as well be opaque.

... and actually release it. That makes a big difference in the fate of a device

I've seen the JUIX version in person a year ago. Love how small it was. I didn't want to pull out my Eten M600 afterwards because it is a brick compare to the Motorola. ops:
Was not impressed software-wise; JUIX. Although I only got to play with it for a few minutes.
I'm all for more hardware choices for Windows Mobile. Bring it on Motorola!
