Default Spb Software House Releases Spb Traveler 1.0

http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pro...ts/traveler/?en

"Spb Software House, the leading Windows Mobile software developer, releases Spb Traveler, a must have tool set for travelers. Nowadays mobile devices are powerful minicomputers that assist users in many ways. Traveling is definitely a field where a user can get maximum of his Windows Mobile device powered with proper software. A traveler will always have to face things like local time estimation, weather forecasts, currency, unit and clothing size conversion, city guides, planning of international calls and meetings, multi-connection trans-continental flights."

Spb Traveler handles it all - time, weather, flights, currency and unit conversions, and even clothing sizes. The application is available in nine languages and compatible with Pocket PCs running Windows Mobile 2003 to 6. If you're interested in giving it a test run, head over to our affiliate software store and grab the free trial version. The full version costs $29.95, although existing users of Spb Weather 1.x or Spb Time 2.x can take advantage of a $15.00 upgrade offer. More details here.

I wish it did everything Trip Tracker did. Iambic bought out Two Peaks, including Trip Tracker and promised an updated version, but we're still waiting.

I couldn't agree more. Trip Tracker was the BEST....everything else was bloatware or poorly executed, and there aren't that many itinerary manager apps anyway (why, I have NO idea).

Trip Tracker stopped being developed before Windows Mobile 5, and subsequently is not Windows Mobile 5 compatible (we've tried), let alone Windows Mobile 6 and/or Vista compatible (for the desktop app). Iambic did finally buy the rights to Trip Tracker, but it is the only Two Peaks title they purchased that has NOT been updated and released under Iambic's name (why, I have NO idea).

I was optomistic when I saw SPB (who has a solid development track record) release Traveler, but the itinerary manager is much more of a flight manager, and then only for a single trip (not much support for multiple trips, and NO support for hotel stays, car rentals, etc.).

I posted on my initial Traveller thoughts here: http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8054

Honestly, if I was a developer looking for a profitable Windows Mobile app to create, I would develop simple but effictive itinerary manager (almost identical to what Trip Tracker was). And I'm not the only one with this opinion. Here's a thread at Iambic, the angry tone of which testifies to how GOOD of a product Trip Tracker was and how nothing else like it has existed for a LONG time: http://support.iambic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27807

SPB, Iambic, WebIS, individual developers.....are you listening? People want to spend there money on such an application!

Doh! When I read this blurb I was really excited, because I to have been hanging out for an update to Trip Tracker and following that discussion on the iambic forum.

I've downloaded the trial and will have a play with it tonite, but brianchris's comments don't make it sound like the replacement for Trip Tracker that I was hoping for.

How is it that a 5 year old piece of software (Trip Tracker) hasn't been bettered? Surely it can't be that hard to build? The market has been screaming out for a replacement for Trip Tracker for years, and no-one has been able to come up with one?

The worst part about this is that I don't travel that often - maybe 4-6 times per year, and I can't live without this app while I'm on the go. How do roadwarriors cope without an updated version of this software?

I actually like it. It's simple and clean. Also it's way cheaper than WorldMate Pro [with the annual subscription] although with WorldMate Pro you could pull flight schedules to really plan your trip.

Default Ok, I'm sold...

They only need to add three things and I will replace Trip Tracker with it:

- the ability to add more than flights to a 'trip' (eg hotel stays, transfers etc)
- a desktop application to be able to input data quickly
- VGA hack software support

I'm seeing good potential here.

@ bnycastro - completely agree about Worldmate - its a good product, but the fees are horrendous.
