Default Fring Releases Beta WM VOIP and IM Client

http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3945

"fring, a free mobile VoIP software, allows you to talk & IM via your handset's internet connection to other mobile phones and PC-based services such as Skype, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, SIP and Twitter, at no extra cost."

Originally for Symbian 60 phones, fring now brings some of that love to Windows Mobile, both Standard and Professional. The nice thing about this (apart from the cost - free!), is the ability to connect to a variety of services and not just a proprietary one. You can try out the beta here.

I'm a bit confused, yes for Symbian phones this is a decent solution, personally I did not like it for Skype due to privacy issues as you have to provide Fring (based out of Israel) with your Skype username/password.

But why would one need/want this for a Windows based phone when you can load Skype on to them for free.

Darn, looks like it doesn't work through the T-Mo proxy connection.

I tried it in my Blackjack and was not at all satisfied with the sound quality. Contacts I called could barely hear me and there was a lot of noise in the background. It also froze my device so I had to remove the battery in order to use it again. I removed it. At this stage I do not recommend it.

Are you using the $5.99 T-Zones connection for data?

I'm getting the "Internet connection is not available" error screen when I start it up on my Dash.

No WAS using the "regular" unlimited data package by Tmobile.
Don't have the Nokia anymore.
