Default FinchSync: Mozilla Sync, Without ActiveSync

http://www.finchsync.com/

"FinchSync is a tool for synchronizing contacts, appointments and tasks from Mozilla email and calendar products with a Pocket PC or SmartPhone. Contacts are synchronized with the email client's address book. The build-in applications of the Netscape- and Mozilla Application Suite are supported as well as the standalone Mozilla Thunderbird... ActiveSync is not needed (and not available for Mac OS or Linux anyway), but the Pocket PC must be able to connect to the PC via TCP/IP. This can be done using a WLAN connection for example."

Hardly a day goes by when at least one PPCT poster comments on their frustrations with ActiveSync and wishes there was an alternative. Alas, most alternatives just build on top of ActiveSync, but there's one that doesn't: FinchSync. Even more interesting is the fact that it does support WiFi sync. Do note, however, that it's in beta, so don't use this as a mission critical app. We briefly mentioned it before, but not in detail. That said, has anyone used it, and if so, what's your experience?

Hi there. For some time I use Thunderbird instead of the copy of Outlook 2002 bundled with my n560. Reason? Well, mostly the sorting and filtering capabilities, and possibility to customize almost any aspect of everyday email use in TB.

Since I have started using it, I also started to look for some way to synchronize at least my contacts between WM and TB. Interesting that there are not many options to do it. But there seem to be some.

A bit of explanation here - I do not need tasks and appointments synchronization, as I never need them on my desktop. I once tried to use ActiveGCSync for synchronization with Google Calendar - it does work if anyone of you needs it.

Regarding synchronization with desktop, I have heard about three options - BirdieSync (commercial), Funambol and FinchSync. All of them seem to be java-based. BirdieSync uses MS AS, the other two do not. I have not tried any of them yet, but I am going to try Birdie first, then FinchSync, as it seems to be a dead project, unfortunately
