Gear Diary First Impressions Of The HTC Advantage
"I�ve been using the HTC Advantage for five days, which is definitely not long enough time to pass true judgement on the device, but it is enough time to talk about some of my likes and dislikes. Ready?"
Following on from the unboxing we saw last week, Judie Hughes gives her impressions of the Advantage in daily use. As a geek, I'll admit to having severe gear-envy here, but some of the gotchas are putting me off (that is, apart from the price). As an avid ebook reader the lack of a scroll wheel is a bummer, and I'm really dubious about the keyboard. On the other hand, having virtually every spec I want in one device is really tempting. Anybody else have a different perspective?

Nurisham, I'm also a big ebook reader. When I had the Advantage to review I loved reading on it. I found turning pages was not a problem in the least. I simply tap the screen when I want to change the page. The other thing I really liked about reading on the Advantage was running it in True VGA mode. with that big 5" screen you could fit close to a complete page of a paperback on a single screen. Personally I wouldn't get too worked up over page turning on it. At worst, it requires a minor learning curve to perform it differently.
I would look harder at the keyboard, I think there are some personal decisions to be made there. Unfortunately the answers don't come easily, since you really need to use the device for a few days before you can pass any honest judgment. My decision was that it passed my needs, but I don't do large amounts of typing. I can only say what Judy said in her review, that it is ok for light typing but you are not going to do a novel on it. I think I have heard pretty much the same comment from all the other reviews I've read.

They should have stayed close to the Universal's form factor and added the features that pretty much everyone was asking to have. This device is too expensive and not really practical as a mobile device.

I think it's a very decent "mobile device", now if you mean mobilephone, no it's not a very convinient device as a phone, and HTC didn't intend it as such which the lack of earpiece indicates. HTC offers a long line of phones, smartphones, WM edition phones etc.
As for the X7500 I ordered one let's see how I like it should be here on the 6th or so...

That would depend on the reader you're using. With Mobipocket, which is where I do most of my reading, it's not a problem as you can get the whole screen to response to taps. With MS Reader which I use for DRM books, the d**n page buttons are so small you really need a stylus, hardware buttons, or a scroll wheel.
