UBiQUiO 601: HTC Universal Killer - Not

HTC Universal killer? Not quite. The specs of this UBiQUiO 601 (you really have to think twice while typing that name) aren't all that great: mere tri-band GSM/GPRS connectivity, TI OMAP 750 CPU, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, 2.8" QVGA TFT-LCD, Bluetooth 1.2, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, miniSD, 2.0-megapixel CMOS camera, QWERTY keyboard, and Windows Mobile 5.0. Supposedly, we'll see this one as the i-mate K-JAR. Price and release date are still a question mark.

I have the real thing and this clone just doesn't compare well at all. QVGA? Nothing faster than GPRS? No dedicated numeric keys? Hmm...did I mention QVGA?
The caller ID screen on the outside is a nice touch though...maybe next year! I guess I-Mate is in a pretty tough spot if they have to use this device...

This is no competition to Universal.
Underwhelming specs, but at least it's small...

The name K-Jar is too similar to K-Mart.
At least they didn't call it the W-Mar.

The W-Mar will feature the Pocket PC 2002 operating system, a 10 key keyboard featuring 3 levels of shift/alt to get to all the keys, Compact Flash slot, and Wireless connectivity through Infrared. :devilboy:

The screen is too small, they could have done the device smaller, or at least the screen bigger.

I dont know. Its not that the Universal is setting the world on fire you know. A reduction in some features is not a bad thing (though UMTS/HSDPA would have been nice); especially if the price is not universaly high.

The only things missing for this device to be successful here are quad-band and EDGE.

Look, as long as it's not JARJAR, I'm okay with anything.

I would add faster CPU, bigger screen and UMTS.
