Default T-Mobile UK Releases the MSFP

It's taken a while, but those of you with the T-Mobile MDA Pro, MDA Vario, and MDA Compact II can now download the MSFP update (AKU 2.x) for free from the T-Mobile web site. If you get around to installing it, be sure to let us know how it works out.

Noobie questions:
Whats MSFP for?
How do I configure my Qtek S200 for Push-email? Is it ISP related? Do I have to configure pop and smtp servers for this? Does my ISP have to provide this functionality? Or is it only for enterprises which give corporate email accounts to their employees and use Exchange Server?

MSFP = Messaging and Security Feature Pack

You'll need it for Microsoft's push e-mail solution. More information here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...5/default.mspx

Bottom line, if you don't use Exchange, then it's not really of much value to you. But the other enhancements in Adaptation Kit Update 2 (AKU 2.x) still make the upgrade worth your time.

You'll need Exchange. Some businesses provide it, while some don't. If the latter, you can always use a third-party provider such as 4Smartphone.net: http://www.4smartphone.net/Default.aspx

Default New Update

for what its worth ive just instaled this on my MDA Vario

Totally impressed, nothing seems to be any worse than before and it all works well (always a danger with updates)

The push mail works really well, almost spooky voodoo - which translates to i dont know how it works and dont really care, just happy it does with my works exchange server - for tasks, mail, contacts and diary - perfect.

Other thoughts ? ...

The signal strengh is more consistent - i wouldnt say particularly better, but it does seem more stable - and hard to be certain but i think it picks up agian faster after loosing reception.

GPRS seems to connect a little faster and browsing with IE is more responsive.

Whole system seems better in that undefineable sort of way - not very helpful i realise, though switching between landscape and portrate when opening the keyboard is snappier.

The comm manager looks way different with additional buttons for push mail. The icon on the bottom of the doday screen is still there for comm manager, but there used to be two icons there im sure and i cant remember what the other one was for - if anyone can enlighten me.....

Is there a list anywhere of actual changes so i can see how much is due to the update and whats my imagination ?

Stephen

p.s. - forgot to mention, the battery indicator is in green now - dunno why the change, no feature change i see from obvious, but green it is. Might no later on Monday when i can compare to some other ones in the office that havent had the update.

I'd also be grateful if someone could point me at a list of benefits to upgrading my Vario. I'm unlikely to use push email but might upgrade anyway if there are sufficient good reasons.
