Default Gigabyte g-Smart i Eye-Candy

http://www.phonedaily.com/news/?news_id=4412

With Computex in Taipei starting tomorrow, we can expect the next few days to be a whole lot more interesting as we hear about new and upcoming Pocket PCs and Smartphones entering the market. One such device expected to make an appearance is the Gigabyte g-Smart i, which we've spoken about before.

PhoneDaily has published a few pictures of an orange version of this Pocket PC Phone Edition (it's also available in black). The device features an Intel PXA272 416MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 64MB ROM, 802.11b Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 1.2, a miniSD slot, an FM radio tuner, a PAL/NTSC TV tuner, a 2.1-megapixel camera, a 2.4" 262K-colour TFT-LCD, and Windows Mobile 5.0 (with AKU 2 and MSFP). For that set of features, you can expect to pay around $640 USD.

Default Already on sale on eBay

There's this dude in Thailand who always seems to get the latest smartphones first (I've marked him as a "favourite seller" so I know whenn he gets them.)

Anyway, he's already got these for sale on eBay:

Sounds interesting but I doubt the TV is any good without some huge antenna (the TV pics he has on the site are pretty bad) , and this is yet another case of an anaemic 64MB of ram, which is horrible for a Win Mobile device. When are the manufacturers going to listen to the users about this???

I do not think WM5 is meant for more RAM. I bet 64 is hardcoded
all over the place. You might want to recall what the Dude with
so called "vision" said once about RAM size in early PCs. It was
something like: "User will never need more than 640 KB of RAM"
Theoretically WM5 is supposed to close inactive programs to
reclaim RAM but we all know this is not working....
Maybe WM6 or 7 ?

To be fair, I would like to have more than 64M of RAM in my devices, but on WM5 it's not really neccessary. It works just fine with 64M and I'm not really paranoid on closing my applications.
As for hard coding - maybe, but not really likely, as bulk of memory management is part of underlying CE.NET which can handle more than 128M...

Bill Gates never said that 640KB line. That stuff is made up.

And this phone has nothing impressive.

All that cool stuff and such a tiny screen. I'm just getting used to the 2.8" screen on the Samsung i730. 2.4" is just to small for me. TV at that size wouldn't be to bad, I've had smaller portable televisions but reading ebooks might present a problem. I can't see paying 881.40USD (Using Thailand guy) for something with a screen that size.
