Find Your Next Device With The Grid
"The idea here is to score most current PDA/smartphone solutions and see which one comes out on top. The scores for each criteria are my own personal evaluations. You can apply your own weightings, though, and the page will multiply everything up and work out your most suitable smartphone solution. Models and scores: (10=excellent, 1=terrible). Weightings: 'Not'/'Quite'/'Very' multiplies scores by 0, 1 or 2 respectively. "
A neat little tool that lets you rank what you find important in a device, and provides you with devices that match your rankings. I took this on Thursday night, and amazingly it told me that my top device should be a K-JAM, and my runner-up...a JasJar! So it predicted me correctly, perhaps it can predict your device preferences as well.

I just found out that I should own the phone I just picked up, the Cingular 8125. Hurrah.

My winner was the K-Jam and runner up was the MDA Pro...
My current device is a T-Mobile MDA. Cool site.

Well, the grid recommended an MDA and a Nokia E61. Interestingly, right now I have two Wizard devices, one is a Qtek 9100 from when they first became available and the other is an MDA (just in the event the 9100 needs servicing). Maybe I'll sell one of them and give the E61 a try.

There is no need for some grid. All these devices
currently on the market are lame, early designs.
Here are minimal specs:

2. Bluetooth
3. EVDO or HSPDA
4. 3" VGA touchscreen
5. Keyboard
6. Battery holds one week
7. WM5
8. 624 Mhz CPU
9. 128 RAM, 256MB Storage
10. SD card slot.
11. 3.5 mm headphones jack
12. 2MP camera
13. SIRF III GPS
14. Speaker
15. Microphone
16. Jog dial
17. 6 customizable application buttons
18. USB Sync connector.
19. Graphic accelerator
20. Stylus

How do you mean they're all "lame, early designs"? My MDA Pro is current as far as I know.
And what do you mean those are minimal specs?

I created my own comparison using this app: www.acquasys.com/decider
You can enable and disable each criterion and see how the results change, pretty cool.
(btw, the device of my dreams is the ATOM! )

What he means is that, like me, he finds the current offerings rather unappealing. I'd add USB host, CF slot, autofocus camera, VGA out and UMTS (not just EVDO) to that list actually, and I'd drop the keyboard requirement.
