DesignTechnica Considers the Implications of the Microsoft-Palm Partnership
"There were four things in the technology industry that were generally seen as impossible: The first, was a shift to Intel by Apple, the second, a shift to Microsoft by Palm, with the third, being a shift to Microsoft by Sun and the fourth, a shift to Microsoft by Apple. We could argue that there is now a fifth: A shift to Open Source by Microsoft. Of these five, two have now happened and three, are related to Apple (Palm, spun off of Apple). It is interesting to note, that Sun is now getting along with Microsoft and Microsoft is leaning more and more towards an Open Source model over time."
Alright, so it may not quite be the end of the world, but Rob Enderle of DesignTechnica.com, starts off pondering the recent events which would have been considered impossible or earth-shattering just a few years ago, then goes on to discuss what the partnership of Microsoft and Palm means for the future of mobility. Overall Rob looks at things from a strategic standpoint, seeing the wisdom behind Palms decision to partner with Microsoft and even discussing the implications the partnership could have on Apple. Can anyone confirm this??? I Dont remember it playing out that way... and it definitly isnt depicted that way in pirates of silicon valley  ... MS developed OS/2 for IBM, maybe they got confused?
Edit: I see theres a little controversy regarding this and Palm coming from apple or US Robotics at the end of the article... i wonder what the real story is on that too...

Interesting article.
I too raised an eye browe concerning the Apple OS by MS and the Palm out of Apple references. I would like to see some confirmations out of that.
Of course some would say that up to and including 9, the Apple OS sucked. :wink:
He also kept refering to the razr smartphone. Does he man the "moto q"? if so, I think these two will appeal to two close yet different groups. My understanding is that the Moto Q wont even have a touch screen.
