eWeek Reviews PointSec & WinMagic PocketPC Security Solutions
"eWEEK Labs tested two product families that add layers of protection to corporate clients: New products from Pointsec Mobile Technologies Inc. and WinMagic Inc. provide data encryption and tightened authentication on Microsoft Corp. Windows desktops and notebooks, as well as on Pocket PC-based devices. These products and others like them increase the management and performance overhead of the mobile systems on which they're installed, but organizations that allow employees to carry sensitive data out of the relative protection of their campus walls can't afford to be without the protections they afford."
It's no secret that the Windows Mobile platform is not all-encompassing when it comes to security, though Windows Mobile 5 does appear to address many (though not all) of those weaknesses. If your corporation is seriously considering encryption and security options to keep sensitive data safe, you may want to take a look at this review from eWeek. Do any of you have experience with 3rd party security/encryption solutions for the Pocket PC? Let us know, I'd be interested in hearing from you.

I've been tossing the idea of getting a security application for my PDA for awhile now. Not as a business but as a consumer.
I just keep getting concerned that it will be more trouble that it may be work.
My desires are:
*seemless integration with OS and 3rd part apps
*no degraded performance
*small footprint
*protection for external cards
*protection for internal dbs like PIM data.
*recovery of external card data if pda is lost or damaged but I still have the card.
As I searched for other peoples experience with some of the app out there, I never get very much feedback. Perhaps consumers aren't biting yet.

Yeah. I don't believe there is much of a market from a consumer standpoint. If there were, my inclination would be to believe that Pocket PCs are still not powerful enought to absorb all that comes with a security solution without taking a performance hit (and likely a significant resource hit as well). Maybe in another 2-3 years?
