ATP Introduces 2GB and 4GB 133x SD Cards
"The all-new ATP ProMax SD card products will come in capacities of up to 2GB initially, with a 4GB card planned for later this year in Q4. Conforming to the latest SD v1.1 system specification, they are rated at super fast 133X transfer rates (up to read 20MB/s and 18MB/s write). This tremendous level of performance is ideal for today's demanding applications such as high-end digital photography and video recording. Designed to handle progressively larger and higher resolution pictures in uncompressed RAW format or MPEG2-HD video quality, they allow for professional photographers and enthusiasts to maintain a fast rate of shooting with high megapixel digital cameras and camcorders such as the Nikon D50. Mass production of the ProMaxTM lineup will start in July."

These SD cards are being churned out at a rate faster than I can handle. Announced at Computex, ATP's weather-proof SD cards rated at 133x (20MB/s - read and 18MB/s - write) are to be made available in a 2GB flavour first, followed by 4GB in Q4 2005. These cards are backed with a 5 year limited warranty, and I sure wouldn't mind popping one of these in my Pocket PC. ;-)

You echoed my thoughts. Sandisk announced 2 Gig SD cards last year, but I still cannot find anyone with stock to sell. I've had an order pending for once since March. I don't think they have really shipped any quantity at all. Maybe ATP will actually be able to deliver. In my mind, Sandisk as one of the inventors of the format should be able to deliver faster than the competition, but it just isn't happening.

ATP, along with other flash memory makers that use fast and reliable SLC flash chips, are pretty slow with actually coming out with new cards. And they are pricey. Please hurry up before I'm tempted by sandisk's low prices.

I heard that some people have received the regular Sandisk 2GB card in under 2 weeks from Dell. Has anyone actually received a Sandisk Ultra?
Ecost said they were getting 1,100 in on the 31st, but now they said it didn't arrive and have no idea when the next shipment will come in. This is the second time they told me the shipment didn't arrive.

I bought a SanDisk Ultra II 2 GB SD card in April from NeutronExpress. Works like a charm!
But now they're out of stock until Sep 7 at NeutronExpress and quoted price is more than I paid for it back in April.

I have a few questions.
Will I see much benefit from one of these high speed cards if I were to get one for my Ipaq 4150?
I frequently use my PDA for viewing Movies that I have converted from DVD but currently don't run many apps from the SD card. I can see the benefits of the higher read/write speeds when transferring files from a pc to the card using a USB 2.0 card reader.
I guess I am curious as to the limits of the SD Bus speed on my device, or PPC's in general. Are current devices able to take full advantage of the extra speed?
Thanks for any help!

Honestly, I think the only people who'd really benefit from this kind of stuff are ppl in industrial use of PPC and photographers, no geeks like you and me.
For me, I'd like to see a more secure way of holding SD cards instead of popping out and getting lost when your device gets bumped (PPC's in particular)
