Default Asus Unveils the MyPal A636 at Computex

http://www.asus.com.tw/news_show.aspx?id=992

Asus are set to release a new Pocket PC known as the MyPal A636. The goods? Integrated GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Interestingly enough, although it has not yet been released, it has already won a Best Choice award at Computex. No further details are known at this stage, but if you're interested in the announcements, check out Asus and Computex.

Update: BargainPDA has a few pictures of the A636 as well as a list of its specifications. The device features an Intel PXA272 (312MHz, 416MHz or 520MHz) processor, a QVGA 3.5" screen, integrated GPS, 802.11b Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 1.2, an SD slot (miniSD is a remote possibility), and Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0.

Thanks to BargainPDA for the additional details.

The Chinese version News in asus.com also mentioned this MyPal is small, and the weight is less than 180g. Well, I never think a 180g PPC is small.

I've made a few updates to the post - namely, a list of specs and a picture.

Well the most interesting part of that is the UI layout and GPS - certainly unusual. Going for the PDA/gamer/navigator market, perhaps?

What the crap. 520 mhz. QVGA screen. And I'm a little surprised that they did not include gsm/gprs. Get with the times. Why would you make a VGA PPC and then go back and make a QVGA. I do not want this to do good.

This is already a pocket PC with Wifi , GPS , and blutooth. How much more things can you expect? A GPS pocket pc with VGA screen and 624 MHZ processor? Must cost over $1100.

The bottom line is the A636 is not meant to be a successor to the A730/A730W. It is supposed to serve as another model in the Asus Pocket PC line. By applying that same philosophy, there's no need to question why HP's hw6500 series is not designed to be a successor to the hx4700 series.

Probably not the gamer market. I think what Asus are trying to do here is steal some of Mio's market share. Mio certainly appear to be dominating the navigation market. Others like Garmin and NavMan share a small bit of that market, but there never has been huge competition in this arena. Hopefully Asus can jump the gun, and help make competition breed innovation again.
