Neonode Plan Smartphone with WiFi
". . . Neonode claim that theyre coming out with a new cellphone with built-in WiFi that can automatically switch back and forth between wireless access points and wider GSM networks. Theyre light on any of the other details about the new handset, like which operating system its going to run on (probably some flavor of Windows CE, just like the Neonode N1. . .), but they do say theyre planning to introduce the phone sometime in the second half of this year."
Engadget does not say whether or not their device will use UMA for the 'hand over' of cellular to Wifi connection. Neonode say they are working with Philips and claim that the initial speed will be up to 11 Mbit per second, which will eventually increase to 100Mbs. For more details, the Neonode press release is here. Dual mode roaming would certainly be a very welcome extra tick-box feature on new communication devices. After all, simple & seamless = satisfied customers.

I hope they arent planning a phone with WiFi (btw this is such an old story) because of the fact they cant integrate (or dont know how) GPRS into the N1m. The N1m is GSM only, and lacks so many basic features, its the digital equivlent to a rotary phone. Oh but then there is the 1MP camera, YaY.
Nice idea, lets get moving please.
