Default Introducing GPS.PI to Track Your Friends Via GPS

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000067037629/

Hey, more fun with GPS devices! Thanks to GPS.pi, you can now track your friends positions and movements (and vice versa) over a map. This works best when coupling your GPS receiver with a PPCPE device, but this can also work if you only have a cellphone as opposed to the PPCPE (by sending an Email or SMS with your coordinates). I can see this being real handy with outdoor trips and expeditions amongst friends, or in foreign areas where you and a companion are wandering around independently. Otherwise, this really has more of the W?BIC factor going for it. Anyway, you can get more info here from the developer's website or buy it here from Handango for $47.75 (trial is available). Supposedly the "Live" part of ALK's CoPilot Live refers to the same capability -- being able to track in realtime via their website the location of the CoPilot user. I was wondering if this is also a common feature among some of the other GPS navigation software (TomTom, etc)?

I haven't actually tried it out myself with my copy of CoPilot though...

Your having a laugh for $48? Aren't you?

For that much I'll use the phone.

Well, like I said, if you and a companion were in a foreign area in which you didn't know your way around and were wandering around independently, this type of software could help you two understand how to find eachother, whereas just having a phone wouldn't be as helpful.

Admittedly, that would be a very unique situation for me, so aside from going outdoors or wandering around in the woods, this is strictly W?BIC.
