Default Microsoft VP of Mobile and Embedded Devices Division

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/216790_msftnotebook21.html

"DelBene, 43, oversees about 200 people worldwide in marketing and product management for Microsoft's Mobile and Embedded Devices Division, which includes Windows Mobile software for Pocket PCs and Smartphones, and the underlying Windows CE operating system for devices and embedded systems."

There is more on the background of Ms. DelBene and some info on the future profitability of the Mobile Devices division in the article. Now, I knew the Dell Axim X5 was big, but never really realized just how big.

It's a slow news day. 8)

But the imagery does not bode well for the future of HP Ipaqs. If the ex corporate vice president of marketing in the Mobile and Embedded Devices Division thinks a Dell PPC should be in such a prominent place in a piece like this what becomes of HP's once dominant role in the PPC Field?

Default Re: Microsoft VP of Mobile and Embedded Devices Division

Do I understand it correctly: before becoming vice president of marketing in Windows Mobile division she had no professional experiences whatsoever in mobile devices area?

Eh, you have to remember it's a local Seattle paper, so they'll always be exra-friendly to local Seattle business people. I learned a few new things though, so I found the article quite good. Besides, it's important to know who the Big Boss is when it comes to Pocket PCs. ;-)

I think you're reading too much into this - that photograph was taken in the lobby of the Mobile Embedded Devices building, where they have a few super-sized Pocket PCs and Smartphones. They're marketing pieces, nothing more, and I doubt they'll replace them for every new device that comes out.

Sometimes you guys are so nit-picky. ;-)

Speaking of Dell: I still keep dreaming that they will release Pocket PC phones soon... if they would release Pocket PC phone with VGA display, even without keyboard, I would gladly buy it.

Oh, Dell, are you listening? Gimme Pocket PC phones, Dell!

I'd rather have Dell come out with a WMPE (?). I'd want them to keep the SD/CF slot idea from the X50 series.

WMPE is that right? "Windows Mobile Phone Edition". I hope folks don't start calling it Wimpy.
