Default i700 Becomes Super Remote!

http://www.rabidmidget.com/phonehack/

"This mod was done spur of the moment. I had been thinking about it for quite some time... I couldn't locate anything else on the net regarding this phone and IR control, so I was just trying to build up the courage to actually crack open my smartphone."

From the intersection of "Too much time on my hands" and "Ultra Cool" streets comes this piece of creative hardware hacking. Many of us have heard of and used Griffin Technology's Total Remote product. The problem with Total Remote is that it can protrude rather annoyingly out of your phone and may not be in the orientation you like (i.e. their audio adapter may be sideways if your PPC has an audio port on the side). So why not just open up your case, drill some holes, hardwire the Total Remote product straight to your audio output, and be on your way? Now if only I had the courage to mount these kinds of hacks...

I would have been more impressed if he managed to upgrade the built-in IR LED with a more powerfull one.

Either way, nice hack.

Because then you'll lose your headphone jack?
