Default Amazon Prime - new shipping service

For those of you who didn't notice, Amazon now has a new shipping promo: $79/yr. gets you free 2-day shipping and cheap 1-day shipping. Just check out the frontpage for the announcement.

This is so not worth it to me, as Super Saver gets me the stuff quickly enough. But a Slashdot poster commented that if you need to buy high-end products like this it might be a good deal. And make sure to check out the reviews!

8O  8O

(Seriously, Amazon SELLS STUFF LIKE THIS? Freaky! I wonder if they take Super Saver shipping with it too... :P)

Yeah, the deal would be no use to me, as I don't even use Amazon... 8O On the other hand, I don't think I've seen anything like that before, but you can be sure, at $20,000 that tank is a steal!!!

The 2002 Penny listing was awesome. I like how people tended to look at the 20,000 tank and then the 2002 penny - extremes in amazon land.

I was on the fence about the tank, but the 400 watt premium sound with PA system, plush interior, and external camera, definitely did it for me. Just placed my order. Oh yeah, got the free shipping B/C the price exceeded $25  .

I definitely think that's the idea here... if someone does jump on this deal, they'll want to make it worth their money by doing all of their future shopping through Amazon.

Problem is, how does Amazon convince people that this shipping deal is worth the money in the first place (unless you're looking to buy a tank)?

I think I may have done this a couple years ago, but i've been shopping elsewhere recently, so this seems like a waste of money to me now.
