Default neoHand Releases Weather Center

http://www.neohand.com/pocketpc/weather/

"Weather affects your everyday life in so many ways. From what you wear to where you go, the importance of knowing the latest weather cannot be discounted. Weather Center from neohand puts critical weather information for more than 5,000 cities around the world in an easy-to-use format. With a tap of a button, you can download a full seven days' worth of weather information. In addition, you can download detailed current conditions for your selected cities."

There are those who care about the weather, and those who don't. Myself, I have a vague need to know what the weather is like outside. My wife, on the other hand, has the five day forecast memorized at all times. If you're like my wife, you'll love this app. ;-)

The full press release follows.

NEOHAND RELEASES WEATHER CENTER FOR WINDOWS MOBILE/POCKET PC HANDHELDS

New utility simplifies downloading of weather forecasts onto leading PDAs

NORTHFIELD, Illinois (December 7, 2004) Despite the convenience of the wireless web and the ability to access the Internet from a personal digital assistant, finding the information you need is not as simple as it should be. For example, to get the local forecast on most wireless phones, you have to first open a browser, go to a specific website, wait for that website to load, enter in your city and more waiting until the forecast is displayed. You then have to repeat the process throughout the day if youd like to refer to it again.

Weather CenterTM, neohands latest solution for smartphones, is designed to take the frustration and wait out of accessing weather forecasts on your Windows Mobile/Pocket PC handheld device. With a minimal amount of effort, you can easily download and store current conditions and detailed weather forecasts for your choice of more than 5,500 cities worldwide.

With Weather Center, users select a home city as well as up to five additional preset cities. These preferences are saved. Then, updating occurs with the tap of a button. Seconds later, a seven-day forecast overview, coupled with current weather conditions, is downloaded to the device and remains there until the program is updated again.

Like most mobile Internet users, we were frustrated with the unnecessary complexities involved in getting something as simple as a weather forecast, says David Horwich, president of neohand, inc. Weather Center makes it extremely easy to get weather forecasts on the go, for more than 5,500 cities worldwide.

neohands servers are updated 48 times per day with the latest weather information, so users always have access to the most up-to-date content available. neohand partnered with a leading provider of weather content to deliver best-of-breed weather information to Weather Center users.

Weather CenterTM is available through the neohand website, located at http://www.neohand.com and through Handango, for $12.95. The program requires approximately 1.3 MB of available RAM and runs on any Windows Mobile/Pocket PC device.

Really liked the look of this. Was a little disappointed when I installed the trial and found no Today plug-in. I know it didn't SAY anything about having one, but I just figured it was a natural fit.

Anyone have a suggestion for something this complete, but has a Today plug-in?

I'd recommend PocketWeather. It's features are certainly on par with this Weather Center, but the program itself doesn't look nearly as nice. But the Today plugin is skinnable. Imo it's a tossup, except Weather Center likely doesn't have my location.

ctmagnus,

Your profile lists your location as Golden, British Columbia. If this is correct, Weather Center does, in fact, have your location. For a complete list of cities included in the program, visit http://www.neohand.com/pocketpc/weather/cities.htm.

Regarding a Today Screen plug-in, that is something we hope to have implemented very soon, together with a few other features. Stay tuned...

In the meantime, if anyone has any other suggestions, including cities you feel we've left out and would like to see included, please feel free to email me at davidh @ neohand.com and I would be more than happy to address them.

I use PocketWeather mainly because of it's downloadable map feature, which I don't think any of the other weather programs have. It's good that we have so many weather apps to chose from though, you are about to find one that has all of the features you need/like.

I stand corrected 8)

This appears to use the same location source as PocketWeather, which is a tremendous advantage over most weather apps with their limited locations.
