Default FCC Approves Pocket Loox Device?

https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/...cc_id='NM8BALI'

Kris, from our sister site Smartphone Thoughts, came across this intriguing FCC approval for a HTC device that's quite clearly a Loox:

Looks a lot like the Loox 720, doesn't it? I have no clue if this means that this product will actually be hitting US shelves, but I can hope.

It does look like a Loox 720 without the camera. Perhaps FS plans on releasing a cameraless version of the Loox 720 for the US market. Wonder if the screen is VGA and if it includes the 1640Ah battery (or perhaps a different size)? From the documents it has a PXA272 processor (speed ?) and BT+WiFi. Looks like it may also have 128 MB RAM. Actually I just answered my own questions...the very 1st document states that this is the Loox 718 (a cameraless version of the Loox720) otherwise it is identical to the 720 from the standpoint of BT/WiFi/VGA. Don't know about RAM, battery size, etc. but I suspect that they will likely be identical to the 720. Without a camera, the device hopefully will also be cheaper.

Yay! If it's identical to the 720 except for the camera then I can't wait for it to be available in the US. Hopefully it will be cheaper without the camera (which I wasn't going to use). I've been torn between the Loox 720 and the Dell X50v so I will wait a little longer before replacing my 1910.

This is not a new submission per se (the Loox 710 and 720 were approved by the FCC a while ago) - this is one of those notifications of a release of a modified version of an existing approved model.

In a nutshell - this is the Loox 718 and is otherwise, as CESkins notes, the same as the Loox 720.

Those FCC folk have really smudgey fingers, don't they?

(P.S. I've had my LOOX for a few weeks now, and I'm very happy with it.)

For devices such as this, with camera and camera free options, but otherwise identical, I wonder what the sales rations are.

Are they 50:50 or 90:10. And whats the difference in price? I imagine the cost of additional FCC certification would have to be rolled in somewhere.

I believe the treo and hp 6100 both come with and without cameras. Some-one must know. Information such as this would settle many an argument had on this board

Not needed. Since the wireless functionality is identical to the 720 they don't need to get the 718 recertified.

 Maybe they ought to issue screen protectors to those finger-lickin' FCC inspectors! I've had my 720 for a month now and absolutely love it! (I would never let mine get that smudgey, though)
