Default Router to allow VPN Hosting

Hi everyone! I may be setting myself up for another disappointment (as I've done recently here and here), but I figured it's worth asking.

I currently have a Linksys BEFW11S4 version 2 router. It works fine almost all of the time, but I haven't been able to host a VPN on my server (or PC for that matter), behind the router. AFAIK, I've forwarded the right ports, but it still doesn't work. I've even opened the server's internal-IP address as a DMZ host, and still nothing. I can connect and login to the VPN server fine from within my network (kinda useless ), but from outside, it stalls trying to authenticate. I haven't tried it for a few weeks, and don't remember the exact error.

I've searched for similar problems, and have found that some other Linksys routers have this same problem, but it isn't widely publicised.

I've wanted to replace my router for awhile because of this problem, and now I've been having intermittent problems with the router - usually it just stops responding from computers on my network (can't access the Internet, ping the router, or access its web-based config.). So if I were to replace the router with a new one, which is the best? I don't want a high-end Cisco router (well, make that, can't afford a high-end Cisco router ), but I'd like as many features as possible. I use Vonage behind my router, so I'd like to have a QoS-capable router. And most importantly, I'd like to be able to host a VPN behind the router.

I've been fairly happy with Linksys products, except for the few problems mentioned here. Do newer Linksys routers host VPNs correctly?

And I'm open to other brands too, that is, if you can convince me that it'll be better than what I have now. Thanks in advance!

(hope I get some help this time :| heh)
