Default PDATopSoft.com's Data On Mobile Downloads For Q1 2004

http://www.pdatopsoft.com/press/1Q2004.html

"Mobile software demand grew slowly during the quarter. The number of applications purchased per person was 2.39 up from 2.07 in the fourth quarter of 2003. The average price per application rose slightly in the quarter to $17.2, up from $17.10 in the previous quarter. The number of new applications submitted during the quarter increased by 7% compare to the fourth quarter of 2003."

While these numbers are for both Pocket PC and PalmOS, they're still worth looking at, although I'm kind of surprised that traditional bestsellers (like Pocket Plus) are not in the list; perhaps it's not counted, being a utility tool?

Now if only HP will wakeup and smell the software. Let's have that VGA, large user memory and screen on a consumer oriented device. Throw in Nevo, Dual slots, take away the touchpad and get back to a d-pad and the 3600 series sucess will look like peanuts compared to how many folks would want that device. I think Dell is going to beat them to it though.

Anyone know if NEVO is exclusive to HP and if so for how long before other companies can begin to included it?

Don't Panic!

Grew slowly? That's a 15% increase. Any of you guys get a 15% raise this first quarter?

The most important new addition and enabler would be the addition of small hard drives (4 to 20GB) to pocketpc's, but only for media storage, not OS. The important use of the hard drive would of course be to make our devices better entertainment devices.

Surur

ps: It occurs to me, with such storage, if you had the windows source code you could compile an ARM version of windows 2000 to run on your newest pocketpc

To be fair, that's a quote from the report. When you put it that way however, 15% growth is not too shabby. Still it does not match the internet boom days, but then again, what does these days?

I realize that wasn't Janak's words, but when you hit quote, it attributes it to the poster. I know my company is usually happy with double digit growth...in a year even.

True, but you *could* have removed his name from the quote.

Double digit growth in a year? Each generation expects more than the previous one........ :?

Not a problem. I've met Sven, I know he has nothing personally against me. Well, at least to my face. :P

Right. 15% may sound like a lot, but when the market was that much smaller, every season may have been 50% growth. It's all relative.
