iPAQ rx3000 Series Devices Approved By FCC
It looks like the iPAQ rx3000 series devices have passed FCC certification for WiFi/Bluetooth networking, and as a result, the usual litany of stuff is posted on the FCC website for everyone to see. The user's guide suggests that:- The units will be 4.5" x 2.8" x 0.64" and weighing between 5.2oz and 5.6oz -- roughly the same dimensions as the iPAQ h2215, although slightly narrower.
- All three will use a Samsung ARM processor, but will have varying amounts of RAM.
- The top-end unit, the rx3700, will have 152MB of memory "available to the user", while the rx3417 and rx3415 will have 88MB and 56MB, respectively. All three feature an SD slot for expansion.
- The units will feature a 3.5" QVGA (240x320) screen.
- The units will have a 1.3MP digital camera built-in (no flash); the rx3700 will have additional video capture formats.
- Bluetooth 1.1 and WiFi (802.11b) on all three.
- The rx3700 will be bundled with a 1440mAh battery, and will be upgradeable to 2880mAh. The rx3400 units will have 920mAh batteries, but seem upgradeable to the larger capacity ones (both 1440 and 2880mAh).
Finally, here's a low-res pic from the FCC documentation.

Overall, it looks like a replacement for the 4150 lineup, and seems to do a pretty credible job at that, but I'm personally more curious about the rumored VGA devices.

BH missed the boat on this device. According to the manual it's poised as a Mobile Media Center and comes standard with s/w to allow two way streaming of any media content via WiFi. It also has remote control s/w that will control "all your entertainment equipment". I'm not sure why they didn't go with a faster processor to handle the video but they have definitely positioned it as a complete Media Center which is cool.

This is a good point. I saw that section in the manual, but I wanted to get the post up as quickly as possible. I'll do a closer read and see if I can post something useful about it.

The Samsung processor running at 266MHz is almost as fast as the XScale 263 processor running at 400MHz.
There is no doubt in my mind that the 400MHz Samsung processor will perform every bit as well as the more expensive Intel XScale 270 running at 620MHz.

We've quoted this section of the manual on our article about the device.

Hope you're right. Gotta have video with this unit.
