If so, have you considered Dell? I spotted the other day that they were selling the X5 with bundled TomTom Navigator 3 hardware and software for 317 as a special offer untill the 30th of June.
Box delivered with navigation software, TomTom GPS-receiver, map of Great Britain, car kit. Additional collection of maps over more countries in Western Europe is sold separately. Door-to-door navigation using house numbers Major Roads of Europe inluded; for cross-border route planning in 15 West European countries. Stopovers; go from A to B via C.... make as many stops as you want. A 'roadblock' feature allowing instant re-planning around any unexpected obstacles you encounter on your journey, such as traffic congestion and roadworks; The option of a vivid three-dimensional view of your journey - with clearly defined landmarks and landscapes - to help you get your bearings; A special low-glare night display to prevent dazzle from the screen in low light or dark conditions Large finger-touch on-screen icons and keyboard for ultra-easy operation A huge store of Points-of-Interest providing location and contact details on a wide range of useful places like petrol stations, car parks, restaurants, hotels and cinemas.
This looks like a pretty decent deal if you're looking to add a GPS system to your armoury. Especially as TomTom Navigator 3 wired GPS usully sells for around 165 on it's own. Do remember though, that the X5 runs PPC2003, not PPC200SE, with no current upgrade prospects as we previously reported. Not that I'm keeping track or anything. ;-)
Right now I am using a TomTom Bluetooth (without Navigator) version to use with my old copy of TomTom CityMaps and Routeplanner. Costed me 99 from eBay. Its good since it uses Bluetooth and future TomTom navigator software products will work with PalmOS.
A word of caution though, it seems that this particular combo cannot deal with memory cards larger than 128Mb with TomTom coming to a crashin end. At this point it seems that TomTom3 is the culprit but the jury is still out!
Interesting, especially as it says this at the Dell site:
Quote:
The maps are available in four sizes (depending on the region/country): section maps of 16 MB; section maps of 32 MB; section maps of 64 MB; the complete map of a region/country. You can increase your Axim X5 storage memory at any time by purchasing an extra memory card.
Let us know if there is any more news on this? Ta.
