Default Router connection problems - Help please.

Hi,
I'm running a Windows 98 (first edition) desktop and just can't seem to connect to my netgear DG834G router. There's nothing wrong with the router as my brother's computer can use it fine.

The short story is everything seems to be correctly set up (windows says my network card is present and working, it's bound to tcp/ip, properties are setup correctly). Green led's are flashing happily on router/card which are connected using a standard cat5 cable.

But I don't get assigned an IP address. When I run winipcfg: the Ip address is 0.0.0.0 and DHCP server 255.255.255.255 as if my network card didn't exist. So I can't ping (host unreachable) or even connect to my router at 192.168.0.1 So I can't access my router configuration page nor connect to my adsl. Any ideas on how to proceed? Install another network card perhaps?
