APRIL FOOLS: PalmOne Release Pyre - New Low-end Model
Ive seen some odd things in my time, but this one has to take the biscuit. PalmOne have just announced that they are going to be selling a disposable Palm the Pyre. Well, its a logical continuation along their Zire line of PDAs, I suppose.
The PalmOne spokesman said: "We are really targeting the casual traveller and forgetful executive market, as well as people who arent sure if they want a PDA or not. We believe that everyone needs a PDA from time to time, but in this busy day and age, who want to bother with all that charging and syncing? The Pyre is a sealed unit, so its just a matter of pealing back the lid, using it and then tossing it out in the trash." No comment.
The packaging system is apparently another way of cutting costs, as no expensive blister packs are needed to transport and protect the unit. Pealing back the lid starts a catalytic reaction which activates the battery (non replaceable or rechargeable). The Pyres are deigned to be stacked like cans with their ring pull lids. Stack em high and sell em cheep eh!
The spokesman continued :"Our market research shows that there is a gap in the market and this unit is designed to fill it." Specifications include a low end Lizzardsphere processor, 64K of punched card memory and a non-backlit screen. The units are expected to be shipping "real soon" and the price is still unknown.
Well, it's certainly an..... interesting approach! What do you guys reckon; would you get one for going on holiday or using when you forgot your main PDA?

I think it'd be a little bit more believeable if they were at least recycleable...like the disposable cameras. Maybe come with a postage paid label printed on the back so you just hit some type of reset button (if you're so inclined) and drop it into the nearest mail receptacle and off it goes back to the company for a "recharge".
I think too much about pointless things.
