y'know that windows movie maker 2 does exactly the same thing as muvee if you look hard enough

Movie Maker's "AutoMovie" feature is very, very poor in comparison to muvee's. Have you tried muvee? I don't see how anyone could say it's the same thing... 8O
If Movie Maker meets your needs, that's great, but it's a very different approach than what muvee offers.

Does it work with still photos, too? I don't really do much digital video making, but if this could turn my photos into an organized flick, that'd be pretty cool.

Yup, it works nicely with photos, although I prefer Photo Story for that personally (better quality).

I feel a little bit peeved that I have to pay $19.99 for an upgrade which only adds a "new feature" at this rate this software could get very expensive if this is the policy on new features. Surely, a 3.1 release, is what is required here, and free :?

Yeah, I agree with you on that - they should have added several new features and just called it 4.0. Adding one new feature (I think there's only one new feature) and charging $19.99 for it is a bit odd. But I guess you can look at it this way: if you were happy with muvee before this week, you should still be happy with it. ;-)

Lovely. I just purchased Muvee Autoproducer two weeks ago, and now I get to shell out another $20 for an upgrade? Gah. On the other hand, I've found this software to be almost perfect, and I think this upgrade will get rid of the few remaining problems I had with it. It's GREAT for taking hours of vacation videos and editing them down to 30 minutes or so before burning to DVD. And I second Jason's comment - Movie Maker's capabilities don't even get close to Muvee Autoproducer!

For the $19 they should through in a few styles as an incentive to upgrade, I agree with Ipaq2210, the total cost of ownership is ending up being quite high. I am going to email them with my suggestion and see what they will do.

If Movie Maker meets your needs, that's great, but it's a very different approach than what muvee offers. |
I tried Muvee a long time back. I seem to remember it being poorer than Automovie is now. But that is version 1.
In any case, I don't do a lot of this so Automovie does the trick for me.
