Default Symbian UIQ Dresses Up as a Pocket PC

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.a...?contentid=1885

This software gave me a good chuckle - it's certainly saying something when one OS has an app that makes it look like another OS. I understand why this app exists though - every time I tried a P800, I was bewildered by the UI! So many widgets and icons - sheer chaos on the screen. In my opinion at least.

"This is the most detailed Tracker 3 skin ever created. This skin basically gives the Pocket PC user interface appearance to a Sony Ericsson P800 or P900. All of the most popular Pocket PC features, icons and menus have been ported over to run on your phone. Whether you're a fan of the Pocket Pc software, or just need to spice up your phone a little, this skin is worth taking a look at..."

Being someone who started out with a Psion Series 5 (running EPOC r3) I like Symbian OS and do like the UIQ interface. I personally do not want a tracker skin that would emulate the Pocket PC. Than again, I would not want a "skin" on my Jornada 568 to emulate UIQ.

Why try to make something into something it is not?

I actually agree with you. Way too much going on, and way too much of it buried behind a menu. I'm sure it's something that can be improved upon.

Isn't it funny, though, that we get a chuckle out of this while at the same time bemoaning the lack of meaningful UI enhancements to the PPC?

Well theres been a dashboard theme for ages that simulates the original EPOC 6 UI so they're only getting their own back.

It took me about a day to "learn" UIQ, I didn't find it that hard at all (and I was used to a PPC).

Besides, the skin only works using an app called Tracker. You can't operate the whole OS with that skin(or app)...
