Plaxo
Anyone getting these Plaxo requests to update your contact information from your contacts? It's interesting to watch the viral nature of their service flood my inbox with requests. The real bitch of it is if you don't want to join Plaxo, you're forced into giving an update to your friends each time instead of it automatically updating from the Plaxo database.
Which leads me to my real question- anyone trust a company that gives this service away and has all of your contact and your friends contact information? It kind of irratates me because I've never given my contact information to a friend/contact with the understanding that they would upload my information to a service I have no association with. Very powerful concept, but very dangerous in the hands of the wrong company/person/hacker.

I completely agree. I just got an email from one of our vendors this morning asking me to update my contact info on Plaxo, and I refused. Of course, thanks to him, Plaxo now has my email address, and I have no doubt that they will eventually sell it. Avantgo has a very impressive-looking privacy statement too, but I'm almost positive that they're the ones who sold my email address several months ago. I now get 50-100 spam emails a day at work.
