Default I need a new computer desk

I need your help, fellow PPCTers! My current computer "desk" is a 3' x 3' table. On that table, I have two keyboards, a 17" flatscreen monitor, an Axim cradle, a Microsoft Trackball, a stereo with two large "boombox" style speakers, a 4 port router and an AP. My scanner is sitting on top of one of my two boxes, and my printer sits on top of the scanner.

I desperately need a new desk with some additional surfaces for me to put my stuff on, but I'm finding that I really dislike the standard "hutch" or "vertical cart" designs that I'm seeing at Staples, Office Depot, Walmart, etc.

I'm looking for something that has an "open" design, and looks kinda funky/artistic. I like this desk, but it's a little pricy.

Any suggestions? Do you have something that you really like?

Please help!

For my kids, I have mobile station towers. Its a computer desk on wheels that allows them to bring their desktops into the living room to work on their homework while a sporting event is on tv, and then return it to their bedrooms when done. I have a wireless net in the house and it works great.

The model I have is not available anymore, but this link has a similar set up.

Hope it helps

You may want to take a look through this thread. There are tons of large photos, but some people have some very cool desks that could give you some ideas. A lot of the photo links have broken since they were posted but many of them are still there. (You'll have to get past the first page or so before the photos really start.)

By the way, "a little pricy?" $500 for that desk/cart is a little on the absurd side, methinks. 8O

Why do you need to spend $500 on a desk? And why get something that fancy? My desk is an extremely solid (and heavy) 3.5 x 5 table with no shelves or anything. Unless I were to build my computer into a drawer (which would be VERY cool), I see no reason to have anything other than a table right now. Simple and a lot of space. All drawers do is give you more space to store old stuff that you should have already thrown away...

I bought my workstation/desk from work when we were remodelling. Picked up an L-shaped desk that sits in the corner of my office. It's about 80 cm deep, the long side of the "L" is about 1.6 m long and the short side is about 1.4 m long.

It's basically an big l-shaped bench but I can put my PC, a laptop and miscelanneous junk on it and still have room for the kids when they do their colouring and drawing.

It only cost me $40 AUD. It might worth looking at 2nd had dealers as you might find something close to what you are looking for at a bargain price

If you have an IKEA around you I suggest you take a look there for a desk. They are very reasonable, and I cant believe the great desk I got from there. I love it, and it fits everything I need and some more....

Just my $.02 spacewise...

Get a few short wooden filing cabinets, a large solid wooden door (or two) and a table saw. Saw the door up into several different size pieces, use the biggest for the desktop and the rest to construct a nonstandard hutch.
