Default Turn Your Pocket PC Into a Sophisticated Medical Device

If you are a medical professional and ever need a highly portable oximeter (for measuring blood oxygen levels), here's a new CF-based solution: the Voyager Pulse Oximeter.

"Dolphin Medical introduces Voyager, the worlds first portable high-performance oximeter for the Pocket PC platform. The Voyager uses Dolphin Medicals ONE (Oximetry Noise Elimination) technology, which is the first and only oximetry system that incorporates a digital sensor. Dolphin ONE sensors both amplify and digitize the signal in the sensor, resulting in a stronger and higher quality signal."

Other features include:

Pocket PC compatibility that enables Voyager to be used with a drug database such as Mobile PDR
Ability to save and restore patient waveforms, trend data, and voice / text annotations
 Synchronized voice event marking
 Incorporated perfusion index

I get really excited when I see products like this because it shows how the Pocket PC can deliver real, tangible benefit to people. If you are seriously interested in getting one of these oximeters, they can be had for about $599. You can also read a user review here.

A friend on another site related that he made a video of his wife's pregnancy ultrasound to play on his PDA. When he was out with her, he would rub the PDA over her belly while holding down the play button all the while telling those around that his PDA was equipped with a mobile ultrasound function.

Sounds like my kind of science fiction.

Not having anything to do with the medical profession in any capacity, two things in the article stand out to me:

the insertion of the CF-connector is painless

It's interesting, but Pulse Oximeters are a dime a dozen these days. There's a number of dedicated devices available for that price (or less).
