Default Pocket Internet Explorer Start Page v3.0

http://www.beauvais1.com/ppc/pie_st...page/index.html

Our very own Dave Beauvais, one of the few people I'm aware of that's more "Type A" than I am , has put together a cool little page about his Pocket PC Pocket Internet Explorer start page. Worth a look!

"Well, now that I've upgraded my iPAQ h5455 to Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC (a.k.a. Pocket PC 2003,) I modified my Start Page to use Cascading Style Sheets instead of directly formatting each page. Now if I want to make a change to something, I can just edit the style sheet and the change is reflected on all the pages automatically. CSS rocks and I'm happy that Pocket IE now supports it! I can finally turn off hyperlink underlines on the page, too!

The default "Start Page" page on all Pocket PCs is pretty lame. You can go to the built-in AvantGo client and to three or four other pre-defined locations, and that's about it. Having an assortment of locations quickly available without having to use the Favorites dialog is important to me, so I set out to create a new Start Page for my Pocket PC that was both attractive and functional. The screenshots below show the results of my work. A description of the page follows the four screenshots. (Yes, I am aware that the screenshot drop shadows are broken in every browser except IE. I'll fix that soon.)"

I would be happy if Dave would share the code for his talents...
Dave, are you listening?

Very, VERY nice page.... I'm sure it gives a lot of us ideas as to what we can do for our pages...

Thanks for sharing with us.

Hmmm yes, it would be great if there were some instructions on how to edit these pages or if he just let us download his code and tell us how to install it....that would be even better

Thanks
Thanos

Too busy for me. Although it is really nice. I have links to news sites, mini sites, and a google search field. At the top I have a header with my pic, the text 'Welcome Dean' and a javascript to display the date.

Wow! I hit the front page before going to bed and had to do a double-take; I was a little surprised to see an image of my Start Page there! Thanks for the compliments, everybody! ops:

As I mentioned in the other thread which probably triggered this one, I will try to get something put together to post for others to use, but I'll need some time. This was one of those little personal projects that I did for my own use, but never really intened for anyone else to have to work with. I'll add some comments to the HTML and CSS files and maybe whip up an example or two of how easy it is to change the "theme" of the pages with just a simple swap of the CSS file and/or background image.

Also as I mentioned in the other thread, this version of the page will only work properly in Windows Mobile 2003's version of Internet Explorer. Because of its reliance on CSS for styles and such -- a feature which previous Pocket IE versions lack -- it will look horrible in anything but WM2003's IE. I may be able to restore from a backup a copy of the previous version which used tables for formatting and spacing, but I haven't have time to deal with that just yet.

I'm trying to finish up a review of a product that I was supposed to return to the vendor two weeks ago. (Don't worry, Jason... they know. ) Once that's done, I'll have some time to put a little package together for all of you to play with. I would like to request, however, that I not be flooded with questions. I'll try to comment the files enough that you'll be able to figure out what goes where and why, but for the most part, you'll be on your own. This is going to be one of those freeware things with very limited support.

Oh, and I hereby grant everyone permission to call me anal-retentive.

Juni, I really like your home page. Can I add it to my Mobile Directory?

Sure, go ahead. But I'm sure people would want to modify the links on it
