Default Laridian Updates PocketBible for Pocket PC 2003

http://www.laridian.com/ce/default.asp

Just a heads up if you are a Laridian PocketBible user. They have released 2.020 and it works great on 2003 devices. There are some HTML issues you should be aware of if you make your own notes or own HTML files to be used as books. These changes are due to the new browser included in the Windows CE 4.2 OS that is underneath 2003.

On a Pocket PC 2002 you could identify the target of a named anchor like this: . With 2003, you must close the tag, so your targets should look like . Without the closing tag, everything that follows will appear as a link.
You must include the full path in images now, plus the word "file:" so an image would look like . PocketBible no longer assumes your images are with the rest of your PocketBible books.

For those updating to a new device don't pull the same bonehead manuever I pulled. I had my Bibles installed to a CF card and my reader on my e740. When I got my iPAQ 2215 I installed the reader and simply slapped in my CF card. Pocket Bible kept giving me an error and didn't see the Bibles. I finally realized that my CF card was called "\Storage Card" on the e740 but is now called "\CF Card." Apparantly, Pocket Bible stores this path info during installation of the Bibles so it didn't think any were available.

Reinstalling the Bibles themselves cleared up the problem.

Another thing you shouldn't do is copy \My Documents\Laridian Books\LaridianData.ldb and PocketBible.lwc from one device to the other. I upgraded PocketBible at the same time I upgraded to 2215, and this was crashing PocketBible.

You should only have to do that one time, not for each book. I think deleting the pocketbible.lwc file will also clear that up.

Actually, I just realized that these leftover files were what was probably causing my problem. I manually deleted them before reinstalling, but forgot to mention that. ops:

Thanks Captain!

The .LWC you are correct, bu the LDB file you definitely want to keep. This file houses all of your bookmarks and custom notes. If you don't use those features, then it is no big deal, but if you do, you'll lose everything if you leave the .ldb file behind.

I hope there's a speed improvement with 2003. I just took the plunge with Pocket Bible a few weeks ago, and am frustrated by the amount of time I see the "spinning disk". Granted, I don't run many third-party apps on my Axim, but the only other program with that kind of slow performance is Pocket IE calling up AvantGo pages.

(it particularly hurts because I have a Palm zealot friend who insists that the Palm Bible he has loads instantly. )

Performance is much faster. Much faster. I doubt any of this is on the part of Laridian though. Most likely it all comes from general OS enhancements (dialogs draw much faster) and of course, the new IE rendering engine in CE 4.2.
