Default New Battery Technology

http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.html?i=1804&p=5

In the linked review of the Electrovaya Tablet PC on AnandTech Dave C. discovered some interesting info on the PowerPad battery technology used in this product. You can read more on the PowerPad technology on the patent page. According to the specs, this solution has the Tablet PC running for about 13 hours on a charge, so imagine what such a solution can do for a Pocket PC! Of course, you couldn't fit a battery of the same size in a Pocket PC, but then again the Pocket PC is a lot less power hungry than a Tablet PC. It will be interesting to see when Pocket PCs will start benefiting from new battery technologies like this.

I was a bit disappointed when I heard about the fuel cells and the methanol that is required.

Wouldn't be surprised if this one would require uranium sticks or something like that

Those batteries have been available for quite a while - the company used to be called ElectroFuel (I think it's a Canadian company) ... they have them for many makes and models. Have one for my Toshiba Laptop and it worked great on overseas flights (>8 hrs life).

On a similar note, the current Toshiba Portege 2010 laptop (ultrathin) comes with an extended battery that I use around the office with WiFi on all day - get about 6 hours from it with a relatively small battery (on with WiFi connectivity). If a laptop can get this kind of time, why cant a PPC get 20 hours?

I'd love to see PPC battery power take off like this. As it is, I can get a rather impressive 6 hours on my iPaq (with the light off) if I'm listening to music and/or doing standard PIM stuff, but if I'm playing games or watching videos, that battery life goes right out the door.
