Default Non-Mobile Version from a CE-based Device?

I received the following question in my email today, but like many of the messages we get, the user forgot to include a return email address:

"Is there a way to avoid being shunted to the mobile index page? I am using Samsung's NEXiO S160 with WVGA 800x480 screen which doesn't need to have mobile rendition. I prefer the full version with all the goodies."

Why, yes there is! Use this URL when you want to avoid the mobile re-direction: www.pocketpcthoughts.com/no_sniffer.php.

Good to know... I kept forgetting to ask the same question myself.

Not to mention the fact that I kept forgetting to look to see if it had already been asked! ops:

Thanks for the post...

Jason, could you ask the person who sent that request to spill the beans on the S160? So far I've seen only cursory reviews on the device.

How about the registry hacks that change the browser string? Wouldn't those prevent redirection since the server believes they are talking to IE5 or 6 or whatever? Just a thought.

Yes, they work. I applied that on my Jornada 720, as 640x240 often is good enough for regular sites, and mobile sites look a bit weird on that screen. See http://www.phm.lu/pocketpc/regtweaks/Tweak.asp?ref=1 for the tweak.

Default Not the one who posted, but have to say I love my Nexio

Jason - thanks for posting this link - had the same problem with my NEXiO.

My wife bought me a Nexio last week - fantastic lady buying me a fantastic little device. Finally retired my old iPAQ 3600 into a permanent in-car GPS unit. Those were 2 great years, but was time to move on. The Nexio is great though - comes bundled with Microsoft Office Viewer of all sorts (multiple Powerpoint viewer, text editors, etc.). It really has become a part of my daily life.

One thing which has been immensely useful has been the use of "fake .dlls". Basically, someone figured out which dlls most PPC apps call & made them available for download. Works with about 60% of my apps.

Don't have time to write a review, but Raul Lucky has written one here:

Any other links to the this registry hack? Or just what the new string is, the above link is broken.
