Cyber Mod: Freeware MOD Player
"Pocket Cyber Mod is a mod music player for PDA's running Microsoft Pocket PC. Cyber Mod Player is freeware so you can use it and distribute it as you wish provided that you don't sell it."
What is Mod music you might be asking? They have a great explanation on the site:
"The sample files of today like mp3 and wma are only possible thanks to cheaper memory (the kids nowadays don't know how lucky they are... etc...). Mod music was developed at a time when storage/program memory was very expensive. A mod file contains a few tiny samples and some instructions telling the computer how to build a tune out of them. The end result is great sounding music that only occupies a miniscule amount of memory. This is IDEAL for smaller computers like PDAs, after all you won't fit many MP3s on your iPAQ but you'll be able to fit thousands of mod files on it."
Silicon Machines has some great tools for people who want to use their Pocket PCs for music - speaking of which, we're looking for someone to review PocketJam. Actually have used this program for quite some time, not half bad really. I perfer some nice .ogg files of course, but sometimes a nice beat will suffice. I used to love mod players and music back when they were actually still new and impressive.  Every time I finally got a new soundcard (my first soundblaster, soundblaster 16, 32, 128, etc etc) I'd go nuts over the new subtle sounds.

Ditto. I remember the first time I saw MOD files as a kid... playing on a Pro Audio Spectrum 16 (well, a CDPC II, if you want to be precise). If you know the two pieces of hardware I'm referring to, you've been aware of PC audio for a long, long time.

Pro Audio Spectrum 16, definitely yes. The other though, don't believe so.
Perhaps a nice nostalgia story to clue me in?

Hmm, Media Vision is completely obliterated from the net - I can't find any images of the CDPC or CDPC II. 
Anyway, back in the days when "multimedia kits" (MPC and MPC-2 compliant, anyone?) were all the rage, Media Vision came upon the idea of building a "satellite" unit that would sit under the monitor. It housed two speakers, a CDROM drive, and a sound card (plus a bunch of amps, etc.). It would connect to the PC via a proprietary ISA card and basically act as if it were inside the PC. The CDPC was built on the Pro Audio Spectrum (8-bit), and the CDPC II was built on the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 platform.
Ahh, the days...

Pro Aucio Spectrum 16! DOS! Windows 3.1! Ah...my childhood (I'm 16 but, unlike others my age who didn't necessarily grow up with computers but got into them later, have been playing with these things my whole life)
What a machine that was (The one that housed the Pro Audio Spectrum 16) anyone want to venture a guess on it's specs? NO? Ok I'll just tell you--it was something like 33 Mhz, 1 Gig HD space from 2 compressed drives, 16 Mb of SIMMS (Maybe) shall I go on

I've been using cybermod for some time myself. It's probibly the best quality mod player around for pocketpc. It's a pity there is no playlist option though. Also opening a flash card full of mods take some considerable time. Anyone got any ideas on getting your pocketpc to open just one folder instead of all folders in an open dialog (if that makes sence).
I've been playing with PocketJam as well and so far looks pretty promising a bit like http://www.propellerheads.se/product...rth/frame.htmlrebirth in your pocket.
