Default Conduits.com Gets Jiggy With Mobile Web Site

http://www.conduits.com/company_news.asp?pr20030127.html

Conduits has revamped their web site to enable Pocket PCs to easily navigate their site and download .CAB installation files directly to the devices. They also have an online Knowledge Base, offline documentation in .PDF and .LIT formats, an online forum to discuss Conduits products and much more. Just one more Favorites to add to my growing list in Pocket Internet Explorer.

Also, the special HOLIDAYTHOUGHTS offer ends February 1, so head over there with your Pocket PC browser and buy a whole bunch of stuff in .CAB format.

Geez - could somebody have actually read my "I want to take a .cab ride" article? Aww shucks. Actually, I was also impressed that www.mapopolis.com has a .cab install for their software, a mere 334k or so download - nice! :rock on dude!:

Default Boston site is fully pie ready

at Bostonpocketpc.com they have a fully Pocket Internet Explorer capable site. Which includes all the latest news, reviews etc.

But what is the most amazing that it is also optimized to read, post, private messages on their forum.

Default err... why would you use PIE

Just curious, you said "another link to add to my Pocket Internet Explorer" -- have you considered using a different browser such as Thunderhawk by Bitstream? I find it to be much better than Pocket IE.

No. I'm not into "subscribing" to my software. I also don't use a browser enough to load it on, and when I need that full experience, I fire up a Citrix connection and use IE6 and let my server do all of the heavy lifting instead of sucking it down over GPRS.

by the way....,

I love the way this site looks and loads on PIE, but it would be great that the forums could be formated to our beloved PPCs. Pocketgamer.org has their forums formated for be viewed using pie and even PDAbuzz.com have their new posts in their forums available in their avantgo channel.

Are you guys planning to implement this sometime in the future?

by the way, I wrote this from my Ipaq over wiFi

Well, not to beat a dead horse, but if you were using Thunderhawk you wouldn't have that problem. I realize that some people are reluctant to pay a subscription fee -- believe me, I was too. Until I tried the product. After about 20 minutes of using it, I was convinced that it was completely worth the money. To be honest, I'd pay 3x as much as they are asking per year to use it -- it really is that good. If you've never tried it before you can get a demo version. Believe me, it is VERY fast compared to PIE - it is amazing. It is definitely worth the free demo.

I know that Jason's working hard on it. From the PocketGamer.org point of view, the forums are vBulletin, which is unfortunately completely different to the software used here (phpBB).

If anyone does have a site that uses vBulletin forums and would like to get the lowdown on how to make a mobile version of the forums, please feel free to get in touch with me. The method I used is completely free and surprisingly easy (well, relatively easy!) to implement, and I'd be very happy to share it.

As more and more devices become "connected" (either themselves, or through a Bluetooth connection to a phone), downloading and installing software becomes a real issue. Kudos to Conduits for giving us the ability to do this without the need for a PC!!!
